The Durand Lake Recreation Area is owned by the town and is maintained by the Randolph Foundation with hiking trails maintained by the Randolph Mountain Club. Access to the area is from Route 2 across from Trails Parking near the tennis court, from Durand Road via the Baldwin Bridge, or the Ravine House Pool Bridge.
During the summer from July 1-Labor Day, the Moose River is dammed to provide a swimming pool. There is no lifeguard on duty. The tennis court is clay; therefore proper tennis sneakers are necessary. Also, after play, the court must be swept. There are swings, a slide and a sheltered area with picnic tables. A bath house is available for use with a key obtained from the Selectmen's office. There are NO campfires or camping allowed. Except by prior arrangements via the selectmen, there is only emergency vehicle access from the gate off Route 2. Requests for entry through the Rte. 2 gate must be made to the selectmen. If your request is granted, you will be provided a key to be returned at the end of the function. The path, swimming and playground around the lake are available for public use with no fees. Groups over 10 need prior permission from the selectmen.
The Ravine House Site, on Durand Road, has benches near a flower garden with two lovely elm trees. One can view a beautiful view of Mt. Madison, Mt Adams, Dome Rock, and Crag Camp. In 2010, Jim Baldwin, a Randolph resident, was the major thrust behind the placement of a historical marker. This marker commemorates the Ravine House and its ties to Randolph's early years.
